Clove consists of dried flower buds of Eugenia caryophyllus. family Myrtaceae.It should contain not less than 7.0 percent(w/w) of eugenol calculated on dried basis.
Geographical Source
It is indigenous to Indian Ocean Island Country – Zanzibar. Cultivated chiefly in, Pemba and Unguja, also Madagascar, Caribbean Islands, Sri lanka and India.
Medicinal uses
Clove is used as a dental analgesic, carminative, stimulant, flavoring agent, an aromatic and antiseptic. It also used in the preparation of cigarettes. The oil is used in perfumery and also in the manufacture of vanillin.
